Vanitas opens with a chilly dose of orange flower to deep, myrrh resinous sweetness emerges and blends with the creamy warmth of truly excellent vanilla. Delicate enhances the high notes, and sandalwood adds a dark golden bass line – but the heart of this accord is the exquisite pairing of vanilla and myrrh. The myrrh adds mystery to all the luscious qualities we love in vanilla and brings in a dark sweetness that is not at all food like. Happily, it adds just enough of a cool edge to keep things intriguing, but not enough to overpower our beloved vanilla. Soft, sweet and lovely, Vanitas is Profumum Roma's gift to vanilla lovers. The vanilla is light and slightly powdery. Sandalwood adds a creamy aspect and a touch of fruity orange blossom elevates the composition. It opened as spun cotton candy, intensely sugary and sweet, before it deepened with orange blossom, which gave it more depth and nuance and seemed to cut some of the sugary sweetness. It had the effect of bringing out the vanilla, rather than just pure sugar, and making the fragrance feel warmer. The citrus dropped and left it smelling almost like raspberry syrup. There ended up being no real shifts through the dry down it remained a very sweet, raspberry like syrup on me as the sandalwood didn’t seem to emerge as a detectable note. Any Woman can wear this upon special occasions and Christmas of festivals would be the ideal occasions.
