As it settles, the heart notes reveal a delicate floral bouquet, combining the sweetness of jasmine with the earthiness of immortelle flower. The base notes are rich and warm, featuring the smoothness of sandalwood and the sensuality of musk. The composition opens with bright and zesty bergamot note. It has a refreshing twist with a juicy zing that has a slightly acidic flavor. The feeling gets milder and some sweeter aromas appear on the skin. Still juicy but not so acidic, mandarin orange brings the sun of the Mediterranean, balancing the opening stage with the gentle sweetness. The combined feeling is tart, lively and energetic. The citrus opening is disturbed by some new, pleasant aroma. The character of Blanche Immortelle becomes a little bit more powdery. At first it reminds of the floral pollen, of the meadow hidden in the woods at the beginning of spring, when wild flowers start to grow and bloom after the cold winter. Later however association with pollen disappears and left with the powder like sensation, of yellow-ish flowers, of mimosa. With bitter and sweet citrus and mimosa, is no longer what it was. Spicy facets of immortelle accord blended with just a tiny hint bergamot/mandarin combination kept me entertained for really long, though it were the spicy elements that made the composition more high-paced and vibrant. The flower bouquet grows bigger thanks to jasmine and rose and don’t forget immortelle is a flower as well. Neither rose nor jasmine get the leading role in Blanche Immortelle. No worries as they create a beautiful background for the middle phase of the perfume development. The mingling with bright white and red, like some unusual constellations, highlighting the more peaceful side of the “immortal flower.” The immortelle, so at some point rose and jasmine petals festively burst powerfully to please those who love pretty flowers. Immortelle starts unveiling the base notes of the composition. It is still very warm, now getting a tad sweeter and even more generously saturated with aroma. Woody, slightly earthy vetiver creates the initial stage of the drydown. It’s quite aromatic, smelling a little bit like hay, like coumarin and also, to my surprise, as if there was some vanilla in it. Patchouli makes the whole idea of a perfume deeper and more dimensional, also adding a hint of darkness and mystery. Sandalwood (from Australia) on the other hand is luminous, bright and shiny. It has a smooth and creamy feeling that is both delicious and addictive. This spicy floral fragrance is created from immortelle absolue from Corsica, bergamot from Calabria and mimosa from Grasse. Blanche Immortelle captures a scent that is wild and passionate yet gentle and soft at the same time - a perfectly unexpected combination. Even though Emeraude Agar is quite a heavy perfume it doesn’t lack its cologne-DNA origins. Heart of the composition is fresh in a camphorous way. The perfume contains eucalyptus blended with other notes it gives me an impression of mint and incense at the same time. It’s a fresh encens accord. Definitely not churchy but much more airy and ethereal. Subtle too. Geranium note is introduced after a while. Won’t miss its presence as it spreads the smell of dewy, green & aromatic leaves that make a specific crunchy sound when break them. They also give a sappy smell of plant juice that blends nicely with eucalyptus this adds even more freshness. At some point geranium transforms into more floral version of itself and that seamlessly becomes a Turkish rose accord. Its absolue used in Atelier Cologne Emeraude Agar is a rich and oily, definitely suitable for oriental connotations such as this perfume. Rose in this latest cologne absolue behaves like a chameleon, it changes its shape multiple times during a single wear. Upon appearing first it smells of high quality rose oil, but then it becomes more spicy that it makes me think of carnations! This goes even further on skin and there is a moment where swear that was detecting lots of saffron instead of rose. No matter what it is, it smells absolutely divine and mesmerizing. There’s something dry about this stage but this dryness is very inviting and embracing. Well, Emeraude Agar doesn’t fail even a bit to impresses. The combination of spicy pepper, rich rose and some other notes. After that time has passed the woodiness steps up to the next level by becoming even more accentuated. Woody notes were standing out earlier already but now they cut above other notes even higher. Emeraude Agar offers a lot of Mysore sandalwood a precious and rare material. In this particular case it possesses a quality of roughness. It’s a bulky piece of wood that hasn’t been polished or processed by humans. Sandalwood is then followed by gaiac wood it brings a dark nature of wood, that is smoky & resinous. Substantivity of this accord quickly steps out to the front row, leaving other notes behind. Moreover this emerald gem wouldn’t be complete without a final facet of Malayan oud. Fret not, it doesn’t smell overwhelming of gooey. It has a slightly medicinal, camphorous undertone but primarily it smells balsamic and smoky. All of the notes of Emeraude Agar combine in a fantastic perfume.
