Jean Patou Normandie
Introduction :-
Normandie was launched in 1935 under the house of one of the best world's best fragrance brand known as Jean Patou. Normandie by Jean Patou is a Chypre Floral fragrance for women. The original fragrance Normandie Jean Patou was launched in 1935 in honor of the first voyage of the transatlantic liner SS Normandie, which was part of the Compagnie Générale Transatlantique (1855-1974) flotilla, which was engaged in passenger transportation. In colloquial language, the company was called Transat or French Line. Every woman who bought a first-class ticket on the first transatlantic journey of the SS Normandie received a special bottle of Normandie as a gift. "Normandie" perfume is as breath-taking as its namesake. The perfume bottle is set in a metal model of the French Line masterpiece." "Tell of the glories of that great big steamship, but Patou's newest perfume, christened Normandie, will be forever memorable as the new queen of the seas. In contrast Normandie is Isabel, the proper but not without passion fiancée of Larry who settles for a married rich life instead of pursuing the path to spiritual enlightment with him. Her own disillusionment after the Great Crash and her re-evaluation of her life are aspects which have not yet being explored in Normandie. The fragrance is still the emblem of the good life, of yachting, of cruising, of travelling the world over in defiance of poverty or misery. How extravagant indeed to name a fragrance after a cruise liner! Perfectly fitting the megalomaniac tendencies of the Patou brand, Normandie the liner which showcased some of the most celebrated art nouveau décor in the world and its maiden voyage in 1935 was to be commemorated through Normandie the fragrance. Normandie blends the prettiest powdery flowers in a picture-perfect bouquet of carnation, jasmine and soapy rose that rests on a table of rich mahogany, the smell of balsam in the background. Much like Ombre Rose or Faubourg, Normandie is a sumptuous, expensive, woody floral with slightly sweet vanillic base which personifies the meaning of good taste and restraint. Exactly like Isabel: well mannered, beautiful yet subtle, an excellent conversationalist, it makes for witty small-talk about the latest gossip if wish it, but also a discussion about Götterdämmerung. The question is whether she will find the chance to dwelve in the latter and that chance have to provide for her. A woman, elegantly draped in bias cut pastel silk charmeuse, with a pure white sable cloak, and satin covered jeweled salome slippers, sitting nonchalantly smoking from a long cigarette holder, dripping in diamonds, hair perfectly coiffed, nose impeccably powdered, amidst the soaring Art Deco interior of the most elegantly fitted out transatlantic ocean liner the world had ever known, barely noticing any of it, because she is sipping daintily on some cocktail, and lost in the revery of her life: That gentle, barely their smile on her lacquered lips, her pearlized, smoky eyelids shut. That is Normandie, by Jean Patou.
Smell:-
It opens with beautiful fresh florals fruity aldehydes notes, transform towards aromatic green powdery sweet florals notes, and dries down to creamy sweet powdery woody musky animalic notes.
Remark :-
Normandie is a light chypre with spicy, powdery carnation eugenol as the core note, which belongs to the structural combination of aldehyde-floral-(woody) chypre. Very typical of the thirties. Normandie was created in 1935 by Henri Almeras, Normandie was reinterpreted in 1985 by Jean Kerleo, the Maison's in-house perfumer. Every ordinary chypre had that warm, soft rose, that sweet jasmine, and that sharp spice more clove than cinnamon. The smooth resinous smoke of incense emerging from under the flowers, it's more powdery and sometimes bitter. Normandie would be more accurately called a smooth, polished piece of amber or benzoin resin, in which rose petals, jasmine, and carnation are petrified, surrounded by powder. The aroma is lovely, absolutely, but somewhat spineless. In the warm base, the translucent resins benzoin and opopanax play the leading role, combined with aldehydes, which creates a slight haze. Normandie is reminiscent of the old Caron and Guerlain fragrances. But if you dig deep into this soft, slightly yellowish, mimosa-incense, musky-fluffy cloud, can find a second layer in the form of a bitter shade of moss and vetiver. There is no patchouli, which is unusual for amber compositions - probably the perfumer used oak moss instead of patchouli. Well it is an aroma highlighted by a bouquet of fragrant floral, woody and aromatic scented tones that will bring a sensual, warm and romantic perfumed sensation. A lingering quality of softer fragranced citrus, powdery and sweet floral hints that hide an essence of natural, fresh and calming feelings. The emanation of flavors and scent notes for Normandie unfurl in a whiff of citrus and yellow flowers opening top notes including neroli and ylang ylang. The floral and white flowers heart center notes blend in with carnation, jasmine, orange blossom, rose, orris root, styrax and vetiver while the deep moss and musk base notes leave an impression of moss. If Normandie seems like a pleasant smell for taste or maybe special occasion then the best is to aromatize and give it a try. Anyone can wear this at anytime and anywhere.
